When you’re watching a movie, you can close your eyes but you cannot mute your ears. Thus, sound is integral in creating mood and conveying stories, so I have created an audio narrative which acts as a soundscape but draws focus on specific isolated sounds to create a multidimensional experience through the protagonist’s ears. Drawing inspiration from soundscapist Bernie Krause, film maker Andrei Tarkovsky, and noise musician Richard Maxfield, I produced Morning Rush. Through a fusion of MIDI, spot, and ambient recordings I endeavoured to experiment with diegetic and non-diegetic sound to dramatically recreate an all-too-familiar situation which really embodies where I’m from.
