Even with the comfort of the HELP-scheme-blanket beneath your feet, after spending 3+ years working to earn a very expensive piece of paper, you'd hope that you end up with a high-paying job to make it worth your while.
Public speaking, for whatever reason, has always been something that I am not confident doing... I had to learn how to become comfortable with the uncomfortable - and this was not a linear process.
